Western Reserve Hospital offers a variety of opportunities for those pursuing a learning experience in the healthcare industry. We are proud to offer experiences in both patient care and non-patient care areas. Experiential Learning Process
- Before you begin your application, please determine the department, specialty, and position you would like to experience.
- Review the vaccination requirements listed below (patient care vs. non-patient care).
- Gather the vaccination documentation required. This may require a physician order for a TB test. Please note: TB test result return time may vary based on the type of test ordered by your physician.
- Read and review the "Experiential Learning Guidelines."
- Open the "Experiential Learning Consent and Waiver" page located to the right under the Important Links section. Print and sign the document. Please note: If under 18 years of age, a parental guardian signature is required.
- Submit the required non-refundable $25 application fee through our online payment portal.
- Save a copy of your payment receipt. The receipt must be uploaded with your application for review. If a receipt is not attached, your application will be automatically declined.
- Scan or photograph all immunization records and signature page in preparation to upload to the application form (accepted file types; jpg, png, pdf).
- Once steps 1-8 are completed, you are ready to begin your application. Review the information below and then click the application form link.
Application Fee
A non-refundable $25 application fee is required for all Experiential Learning Program applications. This fee supports the administrative review, screening, and vetting process required for all applicants.
Please note:
- The application fee must be paid before submitting an application.
- The fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether an applicant is placed, matched, approved, declined, withdraws their application, or is otherwise unable to participate in an experience.
- Applications submitted without a payment receipt will be considered incomplete and will be automatically declined.
- Applicants must upload a copy of their payment receipt with their application.
Financial Hardship Assistance
Western Reserve Hospital is committed to ensuring access to experiential learning opportunities. Individuals experiencing financial hardship may request consideration for an Application Fee Scholarship on a case-by-case basis. Requests should be submitted prior to applying. Approval is not guaranteed and will be determined based on individual circumstances.

Required Immunizations
Please review the required immunizations below for experiences in either patient care or non-patient care areas.
Patient Care Experience
This type of experience includes observing or providing patient care in clinical areas. Proof of the following immunizations or test results are required:
- MMR (Vaccination record showing two doses, or titers showing immunity)
- Varicella (Vaccination record showing two doses, titers showing immunity, or documentation of disease)
- Hepatitis B (Vaccination record showing three doses, or titers showing immunity)
- Tuberculosis test (PPD Skin Test, T-Spot, or Quantiferon tests accepted. Test results must be within the past 5 years of experience start date)

Seasonal Flu Vaccination (if experience falls between November 1st – April 15th)
Non-Patient Care Experience
This type of experience includes participating only in non-clinical areas. Proof of the following immunizations or test results are required:
- MMR (Vaccination record showing two doses, or titers showing immunity)

The documentation described above must be uploaded in the field provided on the application form. Illegible documents and/or incomplete series of vaccinations may result in a declined application. A new application may be submitted once all documentation is complete.
Considerations

Incomplete applications will be automatically declined. Applicants will receive an email detailing what was incomplete, and can reapply once missing documentation is acquired.

The $25 application fee is non-refundable and is assessed for the review and vetting of each application. Applications submitted without the required application fee receipt will be considered incomplete and automatically declined.

The application only allows one department, specialty, or position. Applicants may only submit one application at a time. If multiple experiences are required, individuals may submit a new application once their current experience is complete.

If multiple applications are submitted, only one will be reviewed and all others will be automatically declined.

Applications must be submitted at least 14 days ahead of proposed start date.

Experiences sponsored by an educational organization require an affiliation agreement which may take up to 90 days to complete. This may impact a proposed start date.

Western Reserve Hospital reserves the right to decline any application.

A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of your application. However, PLEASE NOTE, THE APPROVAL PROCESS MAY TAKE UP TO 14 DAYS. You will be notified via email for additional information or when your application has been approved or declined. Once approved, you will be provided information on how to schedule your experience.
