Although art may not be able to cure diseases or heal injuries, it is able to elevate moods, improve attitudes and help patients have a better, more comfortable environment to undergo treatment in. At Western Reserve Hospital, we've partnered with local artists and supporting organizations to creating rotating art displays in our infusion rooms for those going through chemotherapy. Every 8-10 weeks, these displays rotate with new artists and art. We also offer a public gallery outside of New Choice Pharmacy. Below are some of our current featured artists and their works.
Mary Hoot
Mary Hoot studied Fine Art at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, and at Indiana University in Bloomington, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Themes in the imagery are often drawn from her love of the sea and from inanimate subjects that are infused with a poetic quality.
Christopher Hoot
Christopher Hoot studied art and design at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he received his bachelor’s degree, and later received a master’s degree from Yale University. He has taught at the Myers School of Art at The University of Akron since 1991 and is currently Coordinator of 2D Design. In addition to teaching Graphic Design and 2D Design Foundations, Professor Hoot has worked with a variety of clients through his design business, HootDesign, including: Akron Art Museum, Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College, Buckeye House Rabbit Society and more. His current creative research is in combining digital vector graphics and photographic images with traditional hand-made marbling techniques to produce multi-layered compositions on paper and canvas.

David M. Buehler
David M. Buehler has spent the past 46 years as a graphic designer, painter, print maker and photographer. Through his travels, both international and domestic, he has amassed a collection of images that bring a different point of view to seeing the world and its beauty. At times abstract, at other times thought-provoking, his images are meant to inspire and stir imagination and to always bring into your home or office a statement of who you are.

Elaine K. Dowling
Elaine Dowling believes in "art for life" – which is why a portion of the purchase price of her paintings is donated for cancer research. Elaine began her art training in 1994 at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio, with the intention of adding graphic design to her freelance writing background. However, classes in drawing and painting – along with some excellent instructors – developed her interest in fine art. Her paintings have been accepted and won awards in juried shows, and her work is available at galleries and boutiques throughout Cleveland. Elaine is also a dancer, choreographer and teacher. Her dances have appeared in choreography showcases, and she teaches ballet throughout the Cleveland area. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Case Western Reserve University, and has worked as both a broadcast and print journalist.
