Why did you choose to become a physician?

Being a physician allows me to combine my loves in life - taking care of those in need, science/innovation and working with my hands

Why did you choose Orthopedics?

I did an orthopedic case - a hip fracture - during my surgery rotation in med school... I was immediately hooked! Hip fractures, especially geriatric patients, are still some of my favorite cases.

What do you like most about your specialty?

I get a great sense of satisfaction from the immediate results in acute care orthopedics. The team and I are able to take a broken, nonfunctional, painful limb and stabilize it immediately beginning the process of healing and return to comfort and good function.

What do you provide for patients?

I provide compassion combined with excellence care. I treat my patients as I would want my loved ones treated

Do you have a favorite patient success story?

I took care of a woman involved in a MCA. She sustained a limb threatening injury. I was the orthopedic surgeon on call the night of her accident. She is walking and well back in Chicago. She and her husband still keep in touch with me! I also love to see my 80-, 90- and even 100-year-old patients walking again after hip fractures.

What are some of your interests outside of medicine?

I love to exercise - running and weights – and I play tennis. I enjoy baking and also do bible study and meditate daily. I am a big believer in the many benefits of both. I am not a mom but don’t tell my little dog that.

How have you been spending extra time at home

I’m using my extra time at home to learn more about and do yoga.

Who is your role model?

I admire Tyler Perry…self-made success with strong faith and a generous heart – and lots of laughs!
