Cybersecurity Safety

Technology is unavoidable these days. Most, if not all, students carry their phone, tablet, or other device with them at all times. As a result, cyberbullying has skyrocketed among students and children. This includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, or false content about someone else and ultimately threatens students’ physical and emotional safety.

To help prevent cyberbullying, be aware of what children are doing online, including what apps and digital platforms they have. The more platforms they use, the more they could be exposed to cyberbullying. Watch for warning signs: Exhibiting emotional responses when using devices, hiding the screen or avoiding conversation about what they are doing on their device, avoiding social situations, or becoming withdrawn from situations they used to enjoy. If you suspect a student is being cyberbullied, ask them questions, show your support, document what is happening and report it to the school.
