Western Reserve Hospital to Host Cancer Awareness Luncheon


Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, October 10, 2017 – To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month, Western Reserve Hospital is hosting a Cancer Awareness Luncheon on Oct. 31st, at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium, with doors opening at 11 a.m.  Throughout the luncheon, attendees will have the opportunity to hear inspiring stories from cancer survivors and learn about cancer awareness and treatment from a Western Reserve Hospital physician. The presentations include:

Laura Allio – Community Honoree

Laura is Senior Analyst of Value and Litigation Services at Bober Markey Fedorovich and Community Advocate for Cancer Awareness. Laura was 32 when she was diagnosed with Stage 2B, triple negative breast cancer and began her chemotherapy regimen in April 2017. With the help of her caregiver and husband, Michael, the Allio family is determined to raise awareness regarding cancer, treatment, diagnosis and cure. Currently, the Allios do weekly Live Facebook feeds explaining their path to their cure. Stay updated with Laura’s journey using her social media hashtag, #lauraalliothefuturesurvivor.

Tiffany Baumann – Keynote Speaker

Tiffany is a former professional actress, singer, model and Miss America contestant as Miss Ohio, who now runs an annual Breast Cancer Benefit Concert to support early detection and research. She survived 5-year, stage 3 breast cancer and will speak about her journey to survival. Tiffany was recognized by Cleveland State as a “Fascinating Alumni Award Recipient” and was previously named one of the Faces of Komen.

Gregory Beddell, MD – Medical Professional

Dr. Beddell will provide tips and information on cancer awareness and treatment from a clinician’s perspective. Dr. Beddell is a board-certified surgeon with fellowship training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, one of the top cancer centers in the nation. 

Paula Schleis – Emcee

Paula is currently an Akron Beacon Journal Reporter. In 2016 she was recognized as one of the top three Ohio reporters by the Associated Press, the Cleveland Press Club and the Society for Professional Journalists.

The Cancer Awareness Luncheon takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium from noon to 1 p.m., with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. This event is free, however, reservations are required and can be made by contacting Kathy Romito at (330)255-3050 or
