Sept. 29, 2015 — Providing health care isn’t the only way Western Reserve Hospital is promoting good health – the hospital sponsored a team of more than 40 runners in the 13th Annual Akron Marathon.
The Western Reserve Hospital team, sporting T-shirts with the catchphrase, “Run for Your Life,” included doctors, staff, spouses and even a group of Cuyahoga Falls fire fighters. Runners competed in the full marathon, half marathon and relay events.
“Running in any marathon event requires a lot of training and preparation, which means a lot of good aerobic exercise,” said Johanna Tanno, the hospital’s wellness coordinator. “We’re focused not only on helping people get healthy, but also on keeping them healthy, so we were excited to encourage and sponsor our team for such a significant exercise challenge.”
Tanno, who led and ran with the team, spent months recruiting and planning for the Sept. 26 marathon. This is the first year the hospital has entered a team, but it won’t be the last according to Tanno.
“The Akron Marathon is such a great event, and we’re looking forward to getting even more people involved next year,” she said.
